Sammy's Beach Bar Rum is the rum brand of Sammy Hagar, the Van Halen frontman whose spirits business began with Cabo Wabo tequila and whose rum takes its name from his beach-themed Sammy's Beach Bar & Grill restaurants and his part-time home on Maui. Kola Spiced is the brand's flavored expression, and Hagar relaunched it in September 2023 with a new recipe and new packaging. It starts with the brand's white rum as a base and adds a proprietary spice blend built around kola nut extract plus additional kola nut, the West African seed from the cacao family that gave cola its name and, according to the brand, contributes vanilla and coffee notes to the rum. It is bottled at 35% ABV (70 proof). The kola nut angle sets it apart from the cinnamon-and-vanilla formula of most spiced rums, and the obvious serve is the one in the name: Kola Spiced and cola over ice, where the spice blend and the soda are speaking the same language, though it also works with ginger beer or in a spiced daiquiri. Hagar, who co-owns Santo tequila with Guy Fieri, has said his spirits business now earns him more than his music.
